How to Finish What You Start
What exactly is finishing what you start and following through? You may have heard these phrases before, but what do they mean? To me, it means to make your dreams come true. In one of the luckiest day, you begin your journey and finish in one of the luckiest days. However, now is the exact time to change lifestyle. Perhaps, it may be much easier to get your dreams or goals, which you think are impossible if you finish what you start. On the other side, it is not as easy as it seems. Here I would like to share some of the reasons that can be a barrier to finishing.
1. Setting Bad Goals
The first one begins with setting bad goals, which are too difficult for your physical and mental abilities. Setting bad goals is like buying the wrong map for a road trip. It prevents us from following through because the ways which lead us to our destination are perplexing and hard to understand.
2. Procrastination
The next one is commonly mentioned tactics in the books. By all means, we all have God-gifted talent in postponing things until the very last minute. In fact, we are so good at delaying works, which have to be done in one week. We often say, “I have more time to do this”. But a lifetime string of “laters” ends up being woven into the noose of “never”.
3. Indulging in temptations and distractions
The third one is about indulging in temptations and distractions. In this century, without a shadow of a doubt, we are more likely to be distracted by Telegram conversations, YouTube videos, and endless Instagram scrolls. But of course, we cannot get rid of them. After all, they are not the main problem. Because we must know how to properly deal with them.
4. Poor time management
Last but not least, poor time management. “So much to do and not enough time to do it”. How many times have you heard these words from the person looking at you in the mirror?
Time management is the practice of using time in a way that maximizes productivity and efficiency. We fail to prioritize our activities, instead of choosing unimportant tasks, leading to unsuccessful endeavors. Truth be told, it demands the ability to maintain a work-life balance, but if we can’t even manage our time, how could we expect to find time to follow through on our bigger life plans?
